AN OPEN LETTER TO  MUSLIMS ONLY

Dear Muslim Brothers and Sisters,

God forbid if any one of our near one and dear one is
killed then the killer is evil, a beast and what not
and should get penalty but if one among us kills
anybody then he is not evil and we start lying,
denying or even justifying the killing.... double
standards?

Being Muslims, many of our brothers and sisters are
not working for peace. They are misguided, mistaken
and spreading the virus of hatred and revenge through
telling deliberate lies, disinformation and false
accusations, which is resulting in death and miseries
for number of innocent people living around the world
at the hands of merciless KILLER MUSLIMS and also
bringing bad name to Mohammed (PBUH) who never killed
anyone in his life time.

Instead of teaching about Good & Evil, certain Radical
Muslim Clerics are only "Trading in Religion". They
teach us about accusing, abusing and killing the
non-Muslims. They try to hypnotize us to Hate and Kill
the non-Muslims and brethren of other sects or be
killed and without using any common sense, we readily
believe in whatever is being said by these Hate
Mongers.  Actually, they are "Agents of Satan" who is
paying them heavily and in return they are cutting at
the very roots of the Ummah. Instead of "Mourning"
most of the Muslims are rejoicing on the brutal
killings of the non-combatant innocent civilians and
"The Murderers" have always been "Our Great Heroes".

Before it is too late and the Curse Of God falls upon
us, we should use common sense, find out the TRUTH and
must change ourselves  to save Muslims from becoming
the most "Hated, Isolated, Discredited and Suspicious"
people in the world. We must start working for
promoting "Sectarian Harmony and Religious Tolerance"
in the society and should prove to the WORLD through
our deeds that Islam is not a religion of Zero
Tolerance and Mohammed (PBUH) teaches "Love & Peace"
and not Gangsterism, Terrorism, Barbarism, Extremism,
Sectarianism, Cruelty, Inhumanity and "Hatred &
Killing" of the innocent civilians.

Islam is a religion of peace. Islam teaches respect
and love for all even the animals. But many
narrow-minded Muslims have so far failed to learn
anything good from the teachings of Mohammed (PBUH)
who preaches love for the peoples of all religions. We
are far away from the basic principle of Islam i.e.
"Enjoining the people to do Good and forbidding them
from Doing Evil" and thus, possess no quality of the
civilized society. Unfortunately, many of us show Zero
Tolerance towards others and have wrongly learnt few
thing to be called as good Muslims and those are
"hate" the non-Muslims and "Accusing, Abusing and
Cursing" the non-Muslims.  ...act of madness?

The killing of others in the name of religion is a
Sin. Can a FATHER ever teach his Children to be the
permanent Enemies of each other?

The time has come for us to stop readily believing in
whatever is being said, read and written by the LIARS
/ Hate Mongers. Unfortunately, some misguided-Muslims
believe that the Holy Koran and Holy Prophet (PBUH)
both have instructed Muslims that the opponents be
KILLED and that they are simply following the orders.
We should use our own common sense and only believe
which is logical, convincing and in the best interest
of the humanity.

Why do we hate others so much, may be they are better
humans then what we are. My feeling is that the
Muslims should unite to discredit and deactivate the
fringe mullahs (Preachers of Hate) who promise a quick
trip to paradise to people who have little and
sacrifice themselves with bombs strapped to their
bodies. If the mullahs (THE LIARS) thought that it
really was a way to paradise they would be strapping
bombs to themselves! Their followers are kept too
ignorant to see this for themselves and enlightened
Muslims should educate them. We must promote
understanding and peace. We are all watched by the
same God and need to help one another, not Hate and
Hurt.

Our contention is that the WORLD should resolve the
conflicts facing the Muslim World to stop the
terrorism. Unfortunately, all the disputes facing the
Muslim World are our self created. The root causes of
all the disputes are based on the Muslim Philosophy of
Hate against the non-Muslims. The Muslim literature,
teachings and preaching are spreading and injecting
this hatred in hearts and minds of the Muslims. Our
intolerant behavior is further proved by the root
causes of all the pending conflicts that we (Muslims)
cannot live side by side in peace with the
non-Muslims. All the disputes facing Muslim World can
be resolved easily, only if we (the Muslims) are able
to condemn the "Philosophy of Hate" created in us by
our past and present elders who have divided the
peoples of the world in the name of "Religion, Cast
and Creed".

Fellow Muslims! if God is one and he loves mankind, we
should value each others life and strive to protect
each other than thinking that if we kill we shall have
reward. God looks at human beings not as belonging to
different religions, that is why the rain falls to
all, the sun shines to all and we all breathe the air
freely. We are all created or given life in the very
same way- whether Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Jew etc.
Let us learn to love each other sincerely.

The change of heart and mind is possible to achieve if
we keep up our relentless efforts for a violence free
and peaceful world. We need to preach love, kindness
and humanity with extremist devotion and mission. The
mullahs (THE LIARS) and the preachers of HATE must be
excommunicated at every level and we should stop
giving them donations as it is our money which is
being used by them to spread HATRED for killing of the
innocents.

We must also stop dividing the World into Muslim and
non-Muslim blocks. Our political leaders and religious
teachers must offer positive ideas. Without the
ability to imagine a better world, we cannot build
anything together. Tolerance of the beliefs of other
peoples in the world, warmth and friendship across
racial cultures MUST be the objective of all peace
loving people worldwide. What is being offered today
through religion is "Death, Destruction and
Sufferings".

MY PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Merciful God, please give to peoples of the world, the
required wisdom and determination, to Forgive and
Forget the bitterness of the past and learn to live in
peace like brothers and sisters, by condemning the
divisions and hatreds created in us by our past and
present elders.
(Amen)

Pra quê mesmo?

Como prometi num post anterior, fiz uma seleção das partes da conversa "Pra quê" na lista metareciclagem que foram mais marcantes pra mim. Tá no wiki.
Outra coisa que vale a pena comentar é que visitei dois esporos de MetaReciclagem nesse mês: a Casa Brasil de Porto Alegre, e o Weblab Social, no Parque da Juventude. Bom ver que apesar de toda a minha crise pessoal de identidade coletiva, e mesmo se falta informação específica em alguns casos, continuam existindo espaços fazendo o que eu gosto de chamar de MetaReciclagem.

No começo do mês passado, mandei um email pra lista metarec levantando algumas questões que estavam passando pela minha cabeça. Em resumo, ia por aqui:

eu tenho me perguntado de maneira mais aprofundada sobre a existência disso tudo. Acho que eu tenho uma certa nostalgia por um tempo em que a MetaReciclagem reunia uma dúzia de pessoas dispostas a fazer coisas juntas. Hoje a lista metarec tem 368 pessoas, e pouco ou nada se articula por aqui.

Faz sentido buscar um nexo, tentar encontrar pontos em comum e possibilidades de ação conjunta? Será que ainda é possível articular a idéia de 'comunidade' distribuída ou isso é coisa de 2001?

Tem um subtexto aí que não cheguei a explicitar: naquela semana tinha caído nas minhas mãos o Comunidade, do Bauman. Não cheguei a ler, mas dei uma boa folheada nele, e tinha minhas dúvidas se fazia sentido pensar na MetaReciclagem como "comunidade". Já tem um tempo que eu tenho percebido dois tipos distintos de movimentos em grupos de pessoas que se relacionam basicamente (mas não exclusivamente) através da internet: alguns desses grupos são compostos por pessoas mas parecidas, mas com o tempo tendem a um certo tipo de consenso e daí a rechaçar vozes dissonantes; outros ainda mantêm uma certa diversidade, mas com o tempo as conversas tendem a desaparecer, e aí a identidade se torna - no mau sentido - virtual demais. Pra mim, a MetaReciclagem está nesse segundo tipo - a diversidade ainda existe, mas a sensação de pertencer àquela rede é uma coisa bastante abstrata. As pessoas se sentem próximas, se identificam com a postura metarecicleira, mas quando vão fazer suas coisas que poderiam ser chamadas metarecicleiras, informar e articular pela rede não é uma prioridade. De qualquer forma, fico pensando que isso que é chamado comunidade costuma ser um um processo cotidiano de construção que nunca se acaba, talvez justamente por quase obrigar as pessoas a conviverem com a diversidade, por mais que ela fique submersa em um discurso consensual negociado. Ok, não é bem assim, talvez a diversidade só seja possível na vida urbana moderna, que é exatamente onde a comunidade se evanesce. Mas não consigo parar de pensar numa coisa que acho que já tinha me passado pela cabeça durante o futuresonic: não é saudável uma pessoa só conviver com quem concorda com ela em tudo.
Ainda assim, a quantidade de respostas que aquele e-mail gerou na lista me deixou de alguma forma satisfeito. Desde que a gente começou a fazer a MetaReciclagem, eu mando de vez em quando uma mensagem longa, que muitas vezes se posiciona como um olhar pra rede em crise de identidade. Essa foi uma das que mais geraram respostas. Parei de contar, mas da última vez que vi tinha mais de 70. Olha aqui, aqui, aqui, aqui... O mbraz fez um catado das respostas, eu pretendo fazer outro em breve e publicar no Mutirão.
No fim da conversa, acabei sentindo que sim, ainda tem alguma coisa acontecendo ou pelo menos com potencial de acontecer por ali. Mas as coisas mudaram, e pra conseguir continuar agenciando a gente precisa conversar e propor mais pra entender e concretizar o que é essa, vai, oitava versão da rede. Talvez a MetaReciclagem, em si, não seja mais criadora de identidade. Mas pra mim, pelo menos, algumas características dela são bem marcantes: a insistência em não se corporificar, em se manter, pra continuar na influência do Bauman, líquida. A coisa de buscar agir mais pelo diálogo com estruturas de poder do que pelo confronto e resistência. E uma forma de agir pela rede que ainda não se desenvolveu por completo.
Na verdade, quero continuar acreditando que o que xs metarecicleirxs continuam tendo em comum é um tipo de sensibilidade, aquela coisa de desmontar máquinas-idéias-conceitos, aquele fetichismo pornográfico do conhecer por dentro coisas que concentram conhecimento. E isso se estende a outras esferas. Me
peguei com a mesma sensação em relação a entender uma frase em alemão
do que entender um script em php. Debug mode. Essa sensibilidade pode ser utilizada
em transportes, em medicina, em culinária. É só querer.
E ainda tem a onda do compartilhar. Tenho repensado bastante toda essa mitologia que a gente ajudou de alguma forma a criar nesses últimos anos, e vejo que tem um monte de pontos não explorados, que ecoam até no processo de desenvolvimento do site da rede que eu tenho tentado tocar. Por exemplo: muitas vezes deixamos de explorar uma diferença essencial: publicar na web, mesmo que com licenças livres, não é colaborar. Pode ser uma colaboração em potencial, mas o mero fato de deixar disponível para compartilhamento não é em si uma ação efetiva de colaboração. Colaborar envolve negociar, engajar-se, assumir responsabilidades, decidir coisas, e principalmente co-ordenar, no sentido de adaptar os meus recursos e a minha ação ao ambiente, às pessoas que estão participando e aos recursos que elas têm e oferecem. Assim, vou continuar não aceitando as sugestões de transformar o ambiente online da MetaReciclagem em um mero agregador, que por sinal já existe. E pra quem quiser colaborar, segue o baile.

Estado das coisas

Estou morando em Ubatuba, na costa norte de São Paulo. Menos por algum delirio cyberhippie de viver perto da natureza do que por uma necessidade de encontrar um lugar pra me estabelecer um pouco, parar de circular, e ter contato mais direto entre as coisas que eu faço e o resultado que elas dão no mundo. Em São Paulo tudo se aliena e se distancia. Em Porto Alegre, o tédio vem logo. Na Europa, bom... não me sinto em casa. Além de tudo isso, tenho também a intenção de aprofundar minha vivência cotidiana em grupo. Mas ao contrário de muitxs amigxs, não preciso criar esse tipo de experiência do zero: através da minha cúmplice, eu faço parte já há alguns anos da segunda geração de um grupo de pessoas que vive junto há mais de três décadas. Minha mudança pra Ubatuba é só uma explicitação desse lado. Fora que vou conhecer melhor os buracos e cantos escuros dessa cidade aqui, que eu freqüento há oito anos mas na qual nunca passei mais de 10 dias ininterruptos. Meus primeiros dias aqui, logo que chegamos de Barcelona, foram de pura crise orgânica: rinite, zumbido no ouvido, repouso forçado. Só agora chego de verdade à cidade. Tenho meus planos de médio e longo prazo aqui, mas até o fim do ano pretendo ficar só observando, pra entender melhor os ritmos. Mas certo que a MetaReciclagem vai chegar a Ubatuba.

Passei quase duas semanas em Porto Alegre. O suficiente pra encontrar alguns fios perdidos da minha formação, mas sem dar tempo suficiente para sentir o tédio que me fez correr de lá.

Descobri que meu bairrismo nem é com Porto Alegre, é de bairro mesmo. Por mais que eu tenha morado em um monte de lugares, minha referência de vida urbana é o Bom Fim de 15 anos atrás. Muito da minha idéia de convivência urbana tem uma grande influência dessa coisa de encontrar as pessoas nas ruas, de ir à feira no sábado à tarde, de ver que a maioria dos prédios só são fronteados por grades, ao invés dos altos e fechados muros dos bairros residenciais paulistanos. Em um ou outro lugar, senti uma paulistização de Porto Alegre, e isso me incomodou, mas continuei ali no meu delírio esquizo-nostálgico, que é só meu.

Do Bom Fim de hoje, fiquei feliz em finalmente ter tempo de conhecer mais a fundo a Palavraria da Dra. Carla Osório, que me deu meu primeiro CD de Blues (um dos poucos objetos que me acompanham há mais de 15 anos), de ganhar um corte de cabelo da Su na Dança das Cabeças ali na Vasco, de comer o habitual Xis Coração acompanhado de umas Polar na Lancheras, de conhecer o Gibi (e descobrir que o dono é o Appio, meu diretor de criação na época da Estagio 21).

Gostei da terceira perimetral porque facilitou o acesso à Zona Sul. Não gostei ali da passagem por cima da Assis Brasil, que me fez lembrar do viaduto da nove de julho em sampa e o quanto isso atrapalhou o entorno.

Eleições em Porto Alegre definitivamente perderam a graça na rua. Mas ainda dão motivo a risadas: Onyx e Mano Changes é de rolar no chão. A Maria do Rosário é uma decepção. Fez até chapinha - demorei pra reconhecer a foto no primeiro cartaz que vi -, e tá no horário político com um discursinho Duda Mendonça que dá até nojo, sem rompimento, sem garra, sem graça. Manoela transformou a cor do PC do B em roxo, e isso me incomodou mais do que deveria. Acho que o Fogaça fica. Dos males o menor, pelo menos ele vai ter menos tempo pra "compor".

Perguntar uma coisa aqui (respondam nos comments, por favor): eu me deparei há pouco com uma dúvida: visitei o esporo do parque da juventude nessa semana, e fiz umas fotos por lá. Quando fui publicá-las, a falta de uma maneira fácil de subir muitas fotos ao mesmo tempo (pelo image.module aqui, a única forma seria mandar as fotos por scp para um diretório no servidor, e depois usar a ferramentinha dele) me fez subir as imagens pro flickr.

A Garota sem fio levantou uns dados interessantes de se pensar:

No mundo do MP3, derruba-se em definitivo o conceito que pirataria está ligada às classes mais baixas. Enquanto jovens mais abastados podem baixar toneladas de músicas pela conexão rápida de suas casas (muitas vezes por redes P2P, sem pagar nada por elas), os jovens de classes C e D baixam bem menos músicas, mas pagam pela maioria delas, através dos serviços disponíveis pelas operadoras nos próprios aparelhos.

É fácil constatar o porquê: segundo a TNS, hoje no Brasil temos 26 milhões de celulares com MP3 *e* acesso à web. Porém, o número de PCs com banda larga gira em torno de apenas 9 milhões. E 40% desses celulares musicalmente conectados pertencem às classes C e D, que, por sua vez, são quase em sua totalidade pré-pagos.

Para resumir: quem mais compra música digital hoje são os jovens das classes C e D, através dos celulares, pelas redes de suas operadoras. Muitos não têm banda larga (às vezes, nem mesmo PC) em casa. E como não é preciso ter cartão de crédito para tal, o acesso fica ainda mais fácil - com uma recarga de R$ 30, dá para comprar mais de 50 músicas.

The association FACiL pour l'appropriation collective de l'informatique libre has sued the government of Quebec for not considering local free software initiatives when acquiring IT goods, basically violating antitrust principles.

From February to June 2008, FACIL has noticed sales of proprietary software for more than 25 million dollars. These purchases were made for products offered by large multinational enterprises, with no regard to suppliers in Quebec. These purchases hurt the Free Software suppliers throughout Quebec and are an obstacle to the development of Quebec IT enterprises. FACIL contests these methods as the association believes they are illegal and unacceptable.

Nowadays it is widely known that a strategic Free Software utilization in public administration could create thousands of jobs as well as a significant decrease in software licensing costs. However, Quebec's public administration (and still many others around the World) refuses to even consider and evaluate these options.

BELGRADE, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - A Croatian pensioner committed suicide after a tree growing in front of his house was cut down to make way for a highway, local media said on Wednesday.

The 83-year-old man, from Zlatar, in northwest Croatia, shot himself in front of road workers Tuesday shortly after they had cut the tree down, media reported.

The oak tree was cut down to allow widening of a nearby highway.

The pensioner, who was distraught about the tree being cleared, had earlier threatened local authorities with extreme action in an attempt to save his favorite tree.

Aim and Scope

“Remote Entrusting” is a novel paradigm with the specific objective of ensuring that code running on an untrusted machine, is being executed in a trustworthy manner. In other words, the original code functionality (as originally specified and implemented) has not been modified prior to or during run-time. The assumption is the availability of a connection to trusted entities.

The workshop is organized by the RE-TRUST project (Remote EnTrusting by RUn-time Software au-Thentication), funded by the European Commission, under the Future Emerging Technology (FET) program. See www.re-trust.org for more details on previous workshops. We intend to bring researchers together that are interested in the various topics that are related to the remote entrusting paradigm, for open discussions.

Call for Contributions

RE-TRUST 2008 invites abstract submissions on theory and techniques that are related to “Remote Entrusting”. We are seeking contributions that will stimulate the discussion in several different areas.

General-purpose computation with GPUs

The GPGPU website introduces the efforts of a few people trying to re-use accelerated graphic hardware for generic tasks, using GPUs: CPUs built for graphics... they compute eh.

Today there was a buzz on slashdot, about "New Multi-GPU Technology With No Strings Attached, meaning that another company is trying to break in business with a open-hardware "no strings attached" product.

I think there can be a good market for Lucid Logix and hopefully some future for the GLSL initiative, considering that the current monopoly on access to GPUs is in the hands of Micros... guess who :) appropriating the creations of young asian geniuses as in BSGP by Kun Zhou - with what they call "intellectual property".

I guess dr.Zhou believes they are going to make him rich, what he might not grasp is that his money comes from limiting the legitimate liberties of users and developers who bought graphic devices and never had the opportunity to use them as they want.

With a truly open platform for multiple GPUs (cheaply produced in large numbers as components of consumer products), the computing speed of hardware can dramatically increase. Unfortunately what is already available by ATI and NVIDIA cannot be (yet?) recycled for the purpose.
